Peripheral membrane proteins are proteins that adhere only temporarily to the biological membrane with which they are associated. These molecules attach to integral membrane proteins, or penetrate the peripheral regions of the lipid bilayer.
Channel Proteins. At its core, a channel protein is a hole in the membrane bilayer. The embedded amino acids surround the channel, shielding the pore contents from the hydrophobic membrane interior. Some channels simply allow substances to flow along concentration gradients.
